And clashed they did, albeit in a different court - the futsal court.
The final whistle blew. At the end of The Clash Of The Tech Ecosystems - SportsPlay
Inaugural Futsal Tournament, Grab emerged champions. But that is secondary to what was achieved on 25 March 2017 at Ferro Futsal. Pitting competing tech companies from the local scene onto the futsal pitch in a spirit of togetherness and healthy competition was the highlight of the tournament organized by SportsPlay.

An encouraging 8 companies participated in the event. Sporting big names including Grab,Cradle, Fave, Kaodim, MaGIC,GoGet, SoftSpace and the home team SportsPlay, the teams dribbled balls, made shots at the goal and friendly tackled their way to the top of the standings. But before and after every game, you could see teams giving handshakes, pats on the back and wishes of luck and congratulations.
The tournament lasted close to 5 hours with breaks between matches and a short break for all close to lunchtime. It was quite a gruelling session for all players but such is sport and competition.
“The goal was to bring these tech people out and get them involved in competitive sports”,
Jin Tan, CEO of SportsPlay, commented.
“We are encouraged by the turnout for what is an inaugural event”.
For many players, the event was an opportunity to meet new people from the same industry.Introducing each company, explaining their products and services and generally just exchanging ideas permeated the conversations.
For SportsPlay, the chance to be the facilitator, as per their tagline ‘Your healthy lifestyle facilitator’, fit in perfectly. SportsPlay’s app kept spectators and players up to date with up-to-the-minute updates on what was happening on the pitch as well as the results. This offered everyone an overview of the whole tournament at any point in time.
The tournament was a good start to organizing a sporting event for the tech industry. It is with great hope that this can be continued in years to come.
